About the Journal
FOCUS & SCOPE
Revista Chilena de Infectología is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge in the field of infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on the clinical, epidemiological, and microbiological context of Chile and Latin America.
As the official journal of the Chilean Society of Infectology (SOCHINF), its primary mission is to promote the rational use of diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive tools in the management of infectious diseases, as well as to publish official statements and technical guidelines issued by the Society.
The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, and scientific communications in Spanish, and is aimed at healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and public health policymakers.

Peer Review Process
General Policy
All original articles are subject to anonymous evaluation (Duble blind peer review) by at least two reviewers, who are assigned while avoiding conflicts of interest with the authors, at the discretion of the Editorial Committee.
Handling Conflicting Reviews
In cases of conflicting reviews from the assigned reviewers, a third referee is consulted.
Publication Frequency
Bimonthly publication with one or two supplements per year.
Open Access Policy
This is an open-access journal, meaning that all content is available free of charge to users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in line with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

The Chilean Society of Infectology retains the proprietary rights to the articles and materials published, promoting their reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Therefore, they can be copied, used, disseminated, transmitted, and publicly displayed, provided that:
- The authorship and original source of the publication (journal, publisher, URL, and DOI of the article) are cited.
- The existence and specifications of this license are mentioned.
- The publication will assign each article a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Archiving

Ethical Standards and Informed Consent
The Revista Chilena de Infectología adheres to the general guidelines of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) http://publicationethics.org/
To this end, it has established ethical standards that must be followed by authors for the following types of articles.
- Clinical Studies must include the relevant certification from the Institutional Ethics Committee authorizing the development and publication of the study.
- Clinical Experience articles must include the appropriate authorization from the institution's administration for academic publication purposes.
- Case Reports must include written consent from the patient or their legal representative to publish clinical data and/or images.
Policies on Conflict of Interest, Human and Animal Rights, and Informed Consent

Conflict of Interest: Authors are required to disclose any financial or personal relationships that might influence or bias the research, results, or interpretation of their manuscript. If a conflict of interest exists, it must be clearly stated, and appropriate measures will be taken to ensure objectivity and transparency.

Human and Animal Rights: Authors reporting experiments involving human subjects must include a statement affirming that the study complied with the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by an institutional ethics committee. For studies involving animals, the research must adhere to international guidelines for the ethical treatment of animals, and authors must provide details of the approval obtained from relevant animal care committees.

Informed Consent: Authors must ensure that informed consent was obtained from all human participants involved in the study. For studies involving patients, written consent must be acquired to publish identifiable clinical data or images. The consent process should be clearly described in the manuscript.
Handling Complaints and Disagreements
To submit a complaint, you must write directly to the Editor at the email address: revinf@sochinf.cl. A dialogue will be established between the author(s) and the Editorial Team with the aim of clarifying the situation.
Once the information has been received, the Editorial Team will evaluate each case individually and provide a decision, which is final and non-appealable.
The Editorial Team will have a maximum of one month from the submission of the initial complaint to provide a definitive response.
Plagiarism
The Journal does not accept articles that contain plagiarism, significant overlap, or duplicates of other works already published or simultaneously submitted to other journals.
To ensure originality, the Journal conducts a thorough review of manuscripts using the IThenticate Similarity Check tool, which allows for a detailed and quantitative identification of similarities with previously published articles.

The Revista Chilena de Infectología maintains a strict policy regarding advertising. As a peer-reviewed scientific journal, we do not accept any form of commercial advertising. This ensures that the content published in our journal remains unbiased, focused solely on advancing knowledge in the field of infectious diseases. Our commitment is to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity and editorial independence, free from commercial influence.
