Chikungunya - The great simulator

Abstract

This article is based on a bibliographic review about the disease called Chikungunya. This review of the literature covers important aspects of the disease such as the description of the etiological agent, the lineages of the virus, the clinical manifestations in pediatrics, in the newborn and in adults, diagnostic criteria, management and treatment, differential diagnosis, vaccines and some relevant aspects regarding control, public health measures and experience of countries that have had outbreaks. It could be useful for countries experiencing outbreaks or increases in cases.
