Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance is a growing threat to public health worldwide due to the improper use of these drugs in both humans and animals. Chile has responded by implementing a National Action Plan under the “One Health” approach with the active participation of animal health institutions. Thus, Chile has developed a robust regulatory framework to guarantee the prudent and responsible use of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine, particularly in animal production. These regulations range from banning certain critical antimicrobials to introducing electronic prescription systems for veterinary antimicrobials, marketing control, and monitoring initiatives. The regulations are in keeping with the guidelines of international organizations that work to preserve the efficacy of antimicrobials for human health and maintain animal health and welfare.
