Abstract

The global and national increase in Enterobacterales and carbapenemase‑producing non‑fermenting Gram‑negative bacilli, particularly metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs), poses a serious threat due to the loss of efficacy of conventional antimicrobials. This article reviews the main available and emerging therapeutic strategies for addressing these difficult-to-treat infections. This review analyzes the clinical evidence, laboratory challenges, and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic profile of the ceftazidime/avibactam plus aztreonam combination, the newly co-formulated aztreonam/avibactam compound, and cefiderocol. The goal is to provide an up-to-date perspective that optimizes the clinical and individualized management in this complex epidemiological context.
